The Windows Timebomb updater is something that has pissed me off no end. You can be online playing a game, this little fucker randomly pops up under your game, and your computer inexplicably restarts without properly asking you.
What’s wrong with a ‘install on shut-down’ option? Why do you have to hold the PC users wrists down and demand they restart immediately, or just postpone it by a few hours?
Fucking stupid. OSX doesn’t do that, it just reminds you from time to time, and most updates can be set to install when you shut down/power up the next morning.
Windows doesn’t trust their users. They assume what will happen is there’ll be a percentage of the userbase who never restarts no matter what and when they get a virus from a patched vulnerability, they’ll bitch about how insecure Windows is.
Windows likes to protect users from themselves, which is dumb.
My music laptop does this, but my gaming laptop does not. It only installs things on shutdown…
If had any idea why it did this, I would share!
Mine doesn’t do this either! :D
What it does do, however, is fail to install a lot of updates, forcing me to turn it off and then hide the offending update so it doesn’t do stupid shit like that again.
